Ancient Market Houses - Ross on Wye, UK

This is a beauty isn’t it? Great to see an old market house adapt to all sorts of uses – and when nothing is ‘scheduled’ the market lends a reassuring presence.

Records indicate a market was held in Ross on Wye as early as the 12th century and the ‘new’ red sandstone market house was built in 1650 and still hosts regular markets.
Upstairs is now a heritage and visitors center.

The extended area around the market is referrred to as the Market Place and is a busy shopping district.
