Forgotten fish markets

Most of the old fish markets are gone. Declining fish populations and rising real estate pressures have combined to eradicate many fish markets from their original locations. Historically, most fish markets were right on the water and most major cities had a fish market. Today these original fish markets are a rare breed indeed. For the nostigically prone, here are three photographs of markets that used-to-be. And yes, lets dream that we can bring the local fisheries and the local fish markets back to rebuild and synergize our natural support systems.

MIDDLE – Catherine Market, NYC , was the predecessor of the Fulton Fish Market
